A New Ellenton man who escaped a murder charge as a 15 year old was found shot to death Thursday night, authorities said.
Rakeem Jackson, 20 (pictured), was found dead in a vehicle next to a woodline at Valley Avenue and Shady Lane in New Ellenton shortly before 11 p.m., Chief Deputy Coroner Darryl M. Ables said in a press release. An autopsy is scheduled for Saturday.
No suspects have been announced.
Jackson was a juvenile when he was arrested for murder in 2015 in the shooting death of 35-year-old Cantroy Cuthbertson. The teen was held for over a year in juvenile custody and later moved to the county detention center when he turned 17. The murder charge was eventually dropped in October 2016, and a murder charge was also dismissed against a co-defendant.
The victim had pending charges of drug dealing in Aiken County when he was killed Thursday.
