An Augusta woman has been charged with murder in Saturday’s shooting death of another woman who lives in her apartment complex at Cedarwood Apartments.
Keondra McBride, 26, is facing charges of murder and weapon possession in the death of 45-year-old Yolanda Renee Epps.
Deputies were called to the home just after 3 a.m. Saturday and found Epps suffering from multiple gunshot wounds to the upper body. She was rushed to Wellstar MCG Health, where she was pronounced dead at 6:44 a.m., authorities said.
Sheriff’s investigators were able to quickly identify and arrest McBride for the fatal shooting. She lived in the O-Building while the victim lived nearby in the M-Building.
McBride was transported to the Charles B. Webster Detention Center, but a mugshot was not immediately available. An autopsy is scheduled on the victim’s body, Coroner Mark Bowen said.
A motive for the crime is not known, but the women lived in different units at Cedarwood Apartments, a complex located at 527 Richmond Hill West.
The homicide marks the county’s eighth homicide this year, matching the current toll at this point last year.
